Can You Put Vinegar In A Power Washer

Blogs 440

You can indeed add white vinegar to your pressure washer, but only if you dilute it well and operate it carefully, otherwise the machine will easily fail. It’s best to keep the ratio of white vinegar to water strictly at 1:3. This eco-friendly solution is indeed a “fantastic tool” when dealing with mold and scale on vinyl facades or wooden patios, but you have to understand that acetic acid is corrosive. If not handled properly, the rubber seals and O-rings-the core parts that maintains the machine’s pressure-in the machine’s pump head can easily cause problems. For safety reasons, be sure to add vinegar through the soap tank or downstream injector, and never let it suck directly into the high-pressure water inlet. The most important point is that after the work is done, you must rinse the system with clean water for at least 5 minutes to completely drain out the residual acid, otherwise, you will regret it later when the pump leaks or the warranty becomes void.

The Cleansing Power Of Vinegar

People are used to using vinegar as a kitchen seasoning, it is actually a very powerful low-cost environmentally friendly cleaner. The acetic acid in white vinegar is naturally a good sterilizer.

If the water is hard in your area, you’ll notice a gray, scaly layer on your driveway or walls. Vinegar is very specialized in this area and it quickly breaks down calcium and magnesium deposits that can tarnish exterior walls.

Many soaps on the market can only wash away surface dirt, but acetic acid can penetrate into the small cracks of wooden terraces or exterior wall panels and kill mold and algae spores from the roots. This can keep your cleaning results longer and the mold will not grow back as quickly.

Protecting Your “Equipment”

I really can’t stress enough the warning about the damaged water pump. While vinegar is good for the exterior of your house, the internal components of a pressure washer are actually quite delicate.

Sealing rings and O-rings in pump head, designed mainly for running water and neutral detergent. Acetic acid accelerates the aging of these rubber parts, making them brittle, dry, and eventually lose their elasticity.

As long as one O-ring chain fails, the pressure on the machine will not rise. You may find that the water coming out of the machine is weak or that the inside of the machine starts to leak for no apparent reason.

Correct Dosing Method

Downstream injection: This method uses a soap tank or a special injector to allow the vinegar to mix in after the water flows through the most sensitive part of the pump head. In this way, prevents the acid from contacting the precision valves in the pump entirely, ensuring maximum safety.

Avoid the water inlet: Remember, never connect the vinegar-water mixture directly to the machine’s water inlet hose. Doing so would force highly concentrated acid to flow through every corner of the pump head, and the corrosion risk would be significantly increased.

“1:3 Dilution Ratio” Vs. “5-Minute Rinse Rule”

To survive without destroying the machine, you must uphold these two iron laws:

1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water. This concentration is sufficient to kill algae in practice, while also minimizing potential damage to brass and rubber parts.

This is the easiest and most crucial step for DIY enthusiasts to slack off on. After the work is done, empty the soap tank, replace it with a full tank of clean water, and then let the machine run in low pressure mode for at least 5 minutes. This action ensures that all the acid residue in the hose, spray gun head and nozzle is thoroughly cleaned.

What Are The Best Places To Wash With Vinegar

Cleaning high-pressure cleaner

Vinegar works best in the following scenarios:

  • Vinyl Exterior: It is a master at removing oxide layer and green algae from exterior walls.
  • Wood Patio: Vinegar washes into the grain of the wood, and it doesn’t damage the wood fibers like bleach does, making it gentler.
  • Brick walls and paving stones: They work best on that efflorescence stain.
