How To Pressure Wash A Driveway Without A Surface Cleaner

Blogs 210

A high-pressure cleaning gun can also achieve excellent cleaning results. The key is that you have to choose a 25-degree or 40-degree nozzle, maintain a constant distance of 6 inches from the ground when operating, and cooperate with the overlapping spraying action. This can not only ensure clean and uniform, but also avoid the appearance of ugly “zebra” or the cement surface washed out of permanent traces. Although this is more of a test of hand kung fu than using auxiliary tools, as long as you divide your work by 3x 3 feet and treat stubborn stains with detergent or degreaser in advance, you can restore old cement without damaging the ground.

Practice Your “Marksmanship”

The difference between amateur and professional effects is often reflected in the control of the spray gun.The pressure is completely determined by your hands, and the sense of stability is everything at this time.

  • Keep a distance: The nozzle should always be kept about 6 inches from the ground. If you get too close, the cement surface will easily be washed away, leaving traces that cannot be repaired; if you are too far away, the pressure will be scattered again, and you cannot wash it clean at all.
  • Overlapping strafing: To avoid “zebra stripes”, the trick is to overlap about 30% of the previous area for each sweep. Although this step is tedious, it is the key to avoid washing leakage and ensure a consistent surface color.

Choicing The Right Nozzle Is A Prerequisite

The nozzle determines the shape and strength of the jet. You need to choose more carefully:

  • 25 degree nozzle: This is my first choice. It has achieved a good balance between strength and coverage, and can deal with most stains with ease.
  • 40 degree nozzle: If the lane is not so dirty, or if you are afraid of damaging the more fragile road materials, it will be safer to use this one. Although the efficiency is slightly lower, it is safe enough.
  • Don’t touch the 0-degree nozzle: Many people replace the red direct nozzle because they are anxious to wash away the stubborn stains. If you are not careful, you will rush out a permanent deep groove in the cement, which is really beyond remedy.

Partition Job Strategy

I suggest thinking of the driveway as a number of small 3x 3 feet squares. Make only one square at a time. This divide and conquer method can keep you focused at all times, ensure that every inch of distance and jet trajectory meet the standard, and it is not easy to get out of shape due to fatigue.

Stubborn Stains Must Be Pretreated First

Spray detergent onto the oil stain.

It is unrealistic to rely solely on water pressure to wash away the oil that has accumulated over the years. In order to save effort and protect the ground, I used to use strong detergent or degreaser point to point to deal with it. After applying it, let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes and let the chemicals “pry” the grease out of the cement pores. After that, turn on the high-pressure water gun to rush. Those stubborn stains are already floating soil. You don’t need to push the water pressure to the limit to take risks.
