Can You Use Dish Soap In Power Washer

Blogs 1440

It is OK to take detergent in case of emergency, but I really don’t recommend it.

Although the theoretical answer is “Yes”, this thing has too much foam, which can easily cause machine blockage, and it is not designed for high-pressure pumps at all (pumps like incompressible fluids, not foam full of air). Not to mention that it may wash off the wax on your car and even damage the paint. Therefore, in order to use your machine for a few more years, it is best to use a special high-pressure washer cleaner.

If you have to use it, it must be diluted heavily (1:10 ratio), used sparingly, and the inside of the machine must be thoroughly flushed after use.

In order to help you save the money to repair the machine in the future, we have to talk in depth about why detergent is not generally recommended, what are the specific risks, and if you are really helpless, how to operate so as not to damage the machine.

Why Is It Risky To Use Detergent In A Washing Machine?

Pump Body Damage Caused By Excessive Foam

The biggest difference between detergent and special detergent is foaming. The detergent is designed to produce a thick, long-lasting foam. In the kitchen sink, this is an advantage, but in the pressure washer, this is a disaster.

  • Pressure Drop: The large amount of foam produced by the detergent will bring air into the system. You should know that the pump is designed to transport water. Once air bubbles are mixed, it will cause cavitation. This will make the output pressure drop significantly, and washing is the same as not washing.
  • Sensor Misjudgment: Many new electric cleaners now have flow and pressure sensors. Too much foam will stun the sensor, causing the motor to rush for a while and stop for a while, or even strike directly.

Injection System Clogging

Detergent is much more viscous than the chemical sprayer of the cleaning machine can handle.

  • Residual Build-Up: This highly viscous surfactant easily leaves a slimy residue inside the siphon and jet fittings.
  • Completely Blocked: Once these residues dry or accumulate, they will restrict the flow of detergent and finally completely block. Then you’ll have to take the injection system apart for cleaning-or pay someone to do it, which would have been avoided with the right cleaning solution.

Insufficient Lubrication

The high-pressure pump actually relies on the liquid flowing through it to dissipate heat and carry out micro-lubrication.

  • Ingredients Are Not Right: detergent is a strong degreasing, it is completely free of the kind of special cleaning soap that protects the lubricating ingredients of the pump body.
  • Increased Wear: letting this powerful degreasing agent flow through the pump body without lubricating it will accelerate the wear of internal seals and pistons. Too many sealing rings because of this dry crack, which directly shortens the life of the machine.

Surface And Paint Damage

If you are washing your car with a high-pressure water gun, detergent is definitely a bad choice.

  • Dewaxing: The detergent is extremely oil-free, which means it can also remove the protective wax and sealing layer from your car paint extremely efficiently.
  • Varnish Layer Damage: long-term so dry, paint surface will become dull, after the loss of protective layer, more prone to oxidation and UV sunburn.

A Better Alternative Than Detergent

In order to keep the machine alive for a few more years, and to wash it more safely, before reaching for the detergent, take a look at these alternatives:

Special High Pressure Cleaning Machine Cleaner:

This is the safest choice. They are low-foam formula to prevent cavitation and protect the pump body; chemical composition balance, easy to flush without leaving traces; the most important is to contain lubricating ingredients, can nourish the pump body sealing ring rather than let them dry.

Laundry Detergent:

As the second best option, laundry detergent is slightly better than detergent, but it is still not perfect. One thing to note: if your cleaning task involves removing mold and requires bleach, laundry detergent can usually be mixed with bleach (never mix detergent with bleach, which will produce toxic gases). However, like detergent, laundry detergent is not easy to rinse, and there will still be residue if diluted incorrectly.

If You Have To Use Detergent (Emergency Guide)

If you are now in a situation where there is no special detergent and the work has to be done, you can only use detergent. Then please strictly follow the following process to minimize the damage.

Must Be Heavily Diluted

Absolutely, absolutely do not pour the stock solution directly into the detergent tank.

  • Proportion: Premix in a bucket in advance, 1 part detergent to 10 parts water. This can significantly reduce the viscosity, so as not to produce all over the sky foam and choke the machine to death.

Use The Correct Soap Nozzle

Do not spray soapy water in high pressure mode.

  • Low Pressure Only: Make sure you install the black soap nozzle, or set the gun barrel to low pressure mode.
  • Siphon: If your machine is a siphon, make sure that the filter is completely immersed in the diluted solution and do not suck the concentrated solution at the bottom.

Rinse Thoroughly (The Most Important Step)

This is a life-saving step. After the work is done:

  • Drain The Soap: Take the siphon out of the soap and throw it into a bucket of clear tap water.
  • Run The System: start the spray for a few minutes. You must thoroughly flush the chemical jet, hose and spray gun with clean water until there is no foam in the sprayed water. This will prevent the residue from air drying and clogging in the internal components. If you don’t do this step, the next boot may be a fault.
