Can You Power Wash Pavers

Blogs 210

High-pressure cleaners can indeed be used to wash floor tiles, but whether you wash well or badly directly determines whether you get a brand new yard or an expensive repair bill.

In order to complete the cleaning without damaging the floor tile, you have to control the pressure of the machine within the maximum 3000 PSI (if it is natural stone, I suggest that the pressure should be lower), and be sure to match it with a 40-degree fan-shaped nozzle, or simply use the disc-type rotating surface cleaning machine. The most easy mistake DIY players make is to rush at the brick seam, which will wash away all the polymer sand that stabilizes the brick structure. To achieve professional standards, you have to keep the nozzle 12 inches away from the ground, flush it diagonally, and after washing and drying, you must remember to fill the sand and brush with high-quality sealant, otherwise moss, mold and weeds will soon resurface.

PSI And Nozzle

In the field of cleaning floor tiles, “strong” really does not mean good results. It is a safety red line to set the pressure limit at 3000 PSI. Once this number is exceeded, the brick surface protection may be destroyed. If your home is paved with natural stone such as limestone or slate, I strongly suggest that you lower the pressure again so as not to etch those delicate lines.

The choice of nozzle is also critical. The white 40-degree fan-shaped nozzle can disperse the impact of the water flow, greatly reducing the risk of potholes on the concrete surface. If the cleaning area is relatively large, I still suggest you get a rotating surface cleaning machine. This thing has two rotating nozzles, and the surface washed out is very uniform, which will not leave a deep and shallow “tiger spot” line like ordinary long rod spray gun.

Don’t Underestimate The Gap Sand

I’ve seen too many owners completely unaware of the importance of polymer sand. This sand fills the cracks in the bricks and plays a role in locking the tiles and providing structural tension. It is the key to the tiles to withstand the heavy pressure.

When you take a high-pressure water gun and spray it straight into the gap, you are actually “blasting” the foundation. Once the sand is washed away, the floor tiles will begin to shift, shake, and even crack directly during the later trampling. In order to avoid this kind of situation, your hands must be moving all the time during cleaning, and you must not knock against a certain gap.

Distance And Angle

If you want to wash professionally, you have to stick to the “12-inch principle”. According to my observation, keeping this distance can remove dirt and mildew without hurting the bricks themselves.

The angle of flushing is also very particular. Never spray down 90 degrees vertically, so the pressure is all in the bricks and the base. You should maintain a small bevel and use the “sweeping” posture to operate. This technique allows the water to “stroke” on the brick surface and take away the stain, but it does not pour the water under the brick.

Sand Filling And Sealing

The water stopped doesn’t mean the work was done. No matter how fine you are, you will always flush out some of the surface crevice sand. After the ground is completely dry, you have to refill the high-quality polymer sand to make the tiles stable again.

The last step is to brush the sealant, which is equivalent to buying a insurance for your yard. Professional-grade sealant can form a protective barrier against oil and water. It can inhibit the emergence of moss and weeds, keeping your floor tiles clean for years, not months. This professional process, you are not only doing housework, but also maintaining and increasing the value of your own real estate.
